Shana McFeaters, B.S.Ed., W.D.P.

Shana McFeaters, B.S.Ed., W.D.P. received her B.S. in Education from Malone University and a Reading Endorsement from Kent State University.  Shana is certified as a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P.).  The W.D.P. credential has prepared Shana to diagnostically teach students identified with a language-based disability such as dyslexia.  Shana has over 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience in both public and private setting.

The Wilson Reading System (WRS) is intensive structured literacy instruction for students in grades 2-12 and adults with word-level deficits who are not making sufficient progress through their current intervention; have been unable to learn with other teaching strategies and require multisensory language instruction; or who require more intensive structured literacy instruction due to a language-based learning disability, such as dyslexia.  As a structured literacy program based on phonological-reading research and Orton-Gillingham principles, WRS directly and systematically teaches the structure of the English language.

The Word Identification and Spelling (WIST) assessment and the Wilson Assessment of Decoding and Encoding (WADE) will be the standardized reading assessments administered before instruction begins.  Each session is systematic and cumulative and follows the logical order of language.  Instruction is individualized for each student’s needs and is based on careful and continuous assessment, both informally, through observation and formally with standardized measures.  Monthly progress reports/updates will be provided to parent/guardian.

Shana is available for teaching and/or consultations for students and schools.  For additional information or to schedule, please contact us at 330-963-8600.
