The KidsLink School, located in Streetsboro, Ohio is seeking a compassionate, energetic person to provide one-on-one and small group services and support to individuals with autism ages 5 years through adulthood, teaching them various skills that greatly enhance their lives within the local community. We are seeking motivated applicants with a passion for working with people with disabilities on individualized goals in areas such as social skills, communication, daily living and a variety of vocational tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To provide instruction, support and supervision to participants to teach appropriate skills and behaviors for maximum involvement and success in the community.

  • Providing support and promoting opportunities which enhance the lives of individuals within the autism spectrum and their families.
  • Participate in training provided by supervision to learn about autism, the student's needs and goals, how to respond to various situations, how to document services, and other issues related to the job.
  • Collaborate with supervisor and other professionals involved in providing services to the participant including material creation.
  • Provide appropriate training in independence, rights, self-care, communication, social skills, recreational and leisure skills, and/or vocational and pre-vocational skills.
  • Provide necessary supervision of the participant in all aspects of community-based instruction.
  • Review the participants progress on an ongoing basis to keep goals and strategies appropriate for the participants level of ability with supervisor and/or other team members.
  • Receive supervision and feedback regarding job performance from the supervisor.
  • Must be comfortable driving students to and from their outings in a provided vehicle.
  • Foster and maintain meaningful relationships with community members.
  • Implement the Marcus Crisis Prevention Procedures model to support students with unwanted behaviors when necessary.

Qualifications

Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Participants must have at least one year of a clean driving record, no suspensions or DUI.Ability to assist in lifts and/or physically manage students of varying sizes and weight. BCI & FBI background check.

Education:  High School Diploma or GED is required. Some college is preferred.

Experience: Experience in working with children or adults with disabilities is preferred but not required in all cases.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands:  Ability to participate in physical interventions, when necessary, using certified safety techniques (training provided). Physical interventions are a last resort and targeted to be reduced, however when they occur, they may require physical exertion. Physical requirements include, but are not limited to: kneeling, lifting, bending, twisting, and holding in a quick paced environment.

Decision Making:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

Communication:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, behavior plans/cheat sheets/IEP goals and services as appropriate. Ability to write routine correspondence about experiences.

Work Environment:  Community (home base is at the KidsLink School)
